How do I edit an epic link in Jira?

Our JIRA software version is 7.1. 2.

To reproduce:

  1. Create a story.
  2. Associate it with an epic using drag and drop on a scrum board.
  3. Open the same story. Click edit.
  4. Change the epic link to a different epic.
  5. Click update.

You need to go to Project Settings, bottom left corner. Go to Issue Types and select Epic. Add field Epic Colour (yes, not the Epic Color, looks like Jira has British roots).

  1. Open the story you want to move to a new Epic and click on Edit.
  2. Scroll down in the edit mode until you see the field stating “Epic Link”
  3. Change the Epic Link by searching for and selecting the new Epic you want the story to move to.
  4. Click save/apply.

  2. Choose Edit from the link properties toolbar.
  3. Modify the link and choose Save.

Purpose

  1. Edit the workflow for the relevant project in diagram mode.
  2. Select the ‘Create Issue’ transtion, and then under Options click on Validators.
  3. From the list of Validators that pops up, select the ‘Fields Required’ validator, and then select the Epic Link field.
